Day 42.  Chesapeake-Delaware Canal

7.30 am departure from Baltimore saw us under the Francis Scott Key bridge half an hour later. Key was a famous resident of this area whose notable achievement was writing the lyrics to the anthem Star Spangled Banner.

Our track today takes us through the headwaters of both Chesapeake and Delaware Bays via the C-D Canal which is about 15 miles long at sea level without locks. The canal was amazing, man made but as wide as the Tamar River where I grew up and learnt to sail. Today we moved from Maryland state to Delaware state and are anchored just inside the Salem River on the Eastern Shore of the Delaware River. We bunkered gas(oline) at North Summit Marina, it was cheaper than Maryland but not reflecting the tax free prices we were hoping for!

One Response to Day 42.  Chesapeake-Delaware Canal

  1. Mary Leslie Firestone says:

When you get to the top of NJ there is a yacht club on Staten Island called Great Kills YC. John Calciabetta has helped many loopers with docking at the club and helping them go to NYC by bus. Docking in the city is very expensive. Check it out on Active Captain.
