Day 73. Belleville layover

An easy day as we do some Spring cleaning. Getting special attention was my man cave at the front of the boat. Aired the doona and took out the foam mattress and gave the walls and ceiling a good clean. We need to do this every month or so as the range in temperatures and the condensation make it a prime environment for mildew which Gracie’s owners warned us about. Surprisingly when everything was put back there was more room for me to spread out.

The rest of the day was spent reading and doing research on the Trent Severn Waterway, our next major section of navigation. Normally the Waterway opens on the 15th of May but this year it has been pushed out to the 20th, due to the late Canadian winter. There is a wealth of information available on these Waterways and the ones we prefer are Waterways Guide and Active Captain which rates various marinas and anchorages based on boaters experiences there. An example of the information available on their database is below. The comments from each review are very useful too.

We were invited by Ed, whom we had met last night, to have sundowners and dinner at his house. Unfortunately his wife Jill could not join us as she had to travel out of town but we were joined by his neighbor Rob. Ed, pictured below, is ex military so Deveen and he had much to relate to.
