Day 79.  Mt. Julian, Stony Lake, Ont.

image

Another amazing day in pristine waterways. We covered some 40 miles today and 9 locks. The most amazing lock  was the world renowned Peterborough Hydraulic Lock, over a hundred years old it effectively loads boats into large bathtubs and hoists them vertically 80 feet. Engineers still come here to witness this ground breaking concept of weighting the top bathtub with extra water so the lower one rises.

We enjoyed a magic evening with Don and Freya at their home overlooking beautiful Stony Lake. Gracie is shown at their dock with Don in the foreground and the resort they recently sold in the background. They are ex loopers and Harbour Hosts with the American Great Loop Cruisers Association for this area.
